I never realized I should put this recipe down in writing until a couple friends after eating it wanted me to put this in the blog. This is a simple staple in palakkad Iyer cuisine and hence to me it was a no brainer. This is a simple dish which can really be made by anyone. It can be tweaked to your liking and any vegetable can be substituted. I use cabbage here but you could use spinach, potatoes and peas etc. This is a quick and easy weeknight meal. Leftovers are even more delicious.

Ingredients
1.5 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup moong dal
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp pepper powder

To grind into a paste
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp spilt black gram
1 tsp rice
2 red chillies
1/2 cup coconut

Cook the Moong dal and cabbage with turmeric and pepper with water thang just about covers Ina pressure cooker.

In the meanwhile dry roast cumin, rice, black gram and red chillies. Grind together with coconut.

When the veggies and lentils are cooked, pour them into a thick bottom pan. Add the coconut mixture and temper with coconut oil, black gram and curry leaves.

Serve along with rice or quinoa for a delicious, healthy meal
